Another day, another week, why do I feel so weak?
It's time to visit the doctor...
So, this is something all of us do at some point. Visit the doctor get MC, dump the meds aside and slack at home. But once in awhile, I hear that people are unable to get MC or are unable to get more than 2x days worth. How can we go about getting this?
Below are some guidelines;
1) Know your body well. - I have to emphasize on this, usually, there are certain ailments that plague us constantly throughout our lives, know them well definitely allows to "exaggerate" it. Ladies is easier as "the time of the month" is always a sure killer with good acting skills game.
2) Knows your Meds well. - Knowing which meds help you on your ailments also helps. Requesting for them shows that "you are really sick, and you need the named meds to get well"
3) Don't keep "jumping" doctors. - Be consistent, sometimes seeing the same doctor and getting to them to "know" you helps in getting the "additional" days
4) Acting - Never hurts to "play" up the illness a little
5) This point only applies if you and doctor are familiar with each other. "Honesty"... example;
you are sick and you see him, he gives you 1 day MC, you ask him for another day stating that you just need to rest and your work is becoming a killer.
I hope the above help you guys but as a word of advice, use in moderation, excessive use is the same as crying wolf. I usually get 2 MC in a row and if you are really sick, sometimes its good to try your luck in getting 1 more day

Look Busy, Act Busy, Buey Busy...
It's the beginning of the week again and here we are... how do we go about "impressing" our bosses and colleagues that we are really "busy" and not bother us?
1. Plan Ahead
Appointments for the week and following needs to be planned out. Filling those timeslots with "stuff' we need to achieve or work on. They can be either genuine or just time for you to think about stuff or to just laze around. With you calendar entries full, and with a stressful look on your face, usually, people do not bother you with stuff unless they have no choice.
2. Meetings with team members
If you are a manager or a team lead, do schedule weekly meeting with them. Such meeting, the agenda are usually based on discussion based on actual work that needs advice or to plan ahead for projects.
Once you have cleared all work-related issues, then it's time for you to throw ideas for the team to discuss or gather feedbacks from them for discussion. Such meetings not only help burn your time away, it also allows you to see the teams ability to help lessen load to the overall operations. It might end up a waste of time with no conclusion. Either way, such sessions allows you to see who are the "work smart" people. These people will be able to assist you later on...
3. Paperwork
My desk is never neat, paper is everywhere. Depending on the type of person you are it work both ways. Messy desk, well as long as you can find your stuff it's ok, Neat desk, you can have your paperwork stack up. Some organisations have so many processes that ...well getting certain work done takes time. So you being a "meticulous" person definitely is required to check your work properly and ensuring that what you are doing is in the right order. Take your time don't rush it, at least the when people do question about it, you can explain and you know what you are talking about.
4. Managing deadlines
Always give yourself some room when meeting with deadlines, most of us know that when ask when can we submit the report or project, we will give ourselves a big buffer. 3 days worth of work may result in a 1-week time frame. When you finish the project earlier, you look good, you boss is happy.
I always submit my work close to my deadline but always before but never way ahead.
Now this is what most of us is doing, but what you should do is to with some of the remaining free time, you should always do more research and have more information on hand, in other words, if the task requires a passing rate of 80%, always do a bit more gather more information (extra or outside info) pertaining to the task so that when this information is required suddenly, you have it ready. Never submit 100% work for work that requires 60-90%. Leave room for yourself. When people do ask you about it, "oh it's not really complete yet as I found new information and am doing some reading up/ research on it" Whether it's "reading up" or "research", you decide"
5. Doing things in the most efficient manner
Bill Gates said "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." My suggestion, aim for less work for resolving issues and not re-inventing the wheel for every new issue that comes along the way. Don't go around with solutions looking for problems. Focus on the priorities.
Efficiency, taking the shortest path to the solution. Here is a link pertaining to the why clever and lazy people make great leaders. This is also in relation to point 2. Which one of those mentioned are you?
Once your daily work or operation has reached the most "efficient" your many free time will come and you are able to do your personal stuff but other people will think you are still "busy"

Tiew- Day ...
Today don't complain really cannot, someone commented from yesterday Budget 2017 increase of water price equates to "bring up the awareness of the importance of water"
To the comment above, it's tasteless... one person who replied said ""How about reducing the MP's salaries. It will help remind them the importance of working hard to earn money for a living." Nicely put!
Seriously, we have been taught since young that water is precious and with a revelation of a 30% spike, does it serve as a deterrent? or
Is it because that since 2000 the price of water has not increased due to the higher cost of funding desalination, newwater production and current water infrastructure? So which is it? Both?
That being said, when fully implemented, 75% of the Singapore household will experience a jump of "less than $18" assuming the water consumption does not change. This statement applies to households, businesses like hawker centers will also be affected and that is likely to pass the cost over to consumers. Butterfly effect...
Looks like I will go bathing in the mud pool near my home to save water and to its a good time to work 30% less meaning I have to skive 30% more

Mundane Monday...
Hi Everyone
The weekend has come and gone, here we are again on another shitty Monday, so what can we do to "avoid" around an hour, off work?
Applies to those working in a big corporate environment with Microsoft Exchange and a service desk
1) Call Service Desk
2) Tell them that you would like to archive your email to the local computer.
(some companies have online storage available to store emails or it's a rule not to have an archive locally)
3) When the engineer arrives,
i) Tell him to would like to have exactly the same structure as what you have currently
ii) You would like to have the archive split up by year
This will take awhile especially if your email is huge.
* During this time, take your coffee/ toilet/ gossip/ pantry break. If the engineer can't see/find you, after they have completed the task, their task is not considered completed as you have not verified their work.
If you already have a habit of archiving your email regularly,
1) Tell the engineer that you would like to archive your calendar entries before *a certain date.
This will certainly irritate the shit out of the engineer.
p.s btw the above actually helps in managing your email mailbox size :)
Enjoy
